Appreciate the prompt answer. My laptop is a MacBook Pro; it does not have a button to toggle WiFi. Built-in troubleshooting did not help, as I stated in my original email. The problem is not with the network (again when I boot OS X WiFi works fine). Under Device Manager-Network adapters, I do not see any WiFi device at all. Apr 30, 2017 Broadcom Bluetooth 12.0.0.9850 is available to all software users as a free download for Windows 10 PCs but also without a hitch on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Compatibility with this software may vary, but will generally run fine under Microsoft Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP on either a 32-bit or 64. Or we could take you back to the Broadcom home page. The site map and site search box, located in the top navigation header of this and every page, can also help you find what you're looking for. One more thing: If you want to help us fix this issue, please contact us and let us know what went wrong. My MacBook Pro has a Broadcom BCM43xx wireless card. These cards are known in the open source world for their lack of fully-functional drivers. I am wondering if it would be possible to replace the Broadcom card with something more likely to have working drivers on other operating systems (.BSD, Linux, etc).
I installed Ubuntu 18.04 on an old MacBook Pro 7,1 (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2010) and I don't have a Mac OS to return to (single boot [=). Wifi hardware was not detected and after a lot of work, I was able to install it, chasing down all the dependencies.
The two things I installed at first (along with dependencies, of course) were:
bcmwl-kernel-source
dkms
So now the Wifi hardware is there, but it doesn't see any networks. Today, trying to solve this problem, I also installed this
b43-fwcutter
My Broadcom is 4322 (pci.id is 14e4:432b)
I know a lot of people with Macs and Broadcoms have these problems, and I read through a lot of them. Still, I post this because I see that the problems and the solutions often turn out to be too specific in one way or another. Right now I don't remember everything I tried to fix this problem, but I guess the most important instructions (that led me to install those three things) are https://askubuntu.com/questions/5586..reless-drivers
I appreciate your time and attention, thank you [=
EDIT: let me add that if I press and hold alt/option while booting, I get to this pre booting screen where WiFi works normally.
